Annea Lockwood (b. 1939, Christchurch, New Zealand) is a composer and sound artist whose work explores the sensual and ecological dimensions of sound. From burning pianos to river sound maps, her practice redefines musical boundaries through immersive listening experiences. Lockwood’s compositions embrace natural environments, chance operations, and deep sonic memory, revealing the poetics of the nonhuman world.

Annea Lockwood lives and works in the United States and is Professor Emerita at Vassar College. Her work has been presented at Southbank Centre, London; the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles; ReWire Festival, the Hague; the Metropolitan Museum New York; Donaueschingen Music Festival. and is archived in the British Library Sound Archive.
