James Richards (b. 1983, United Kingdom) is an artist working with video, sound, and installation. His practice weaves together personal and archival material, creating sensory-rich environments that challenge narrative linearity. Through layering, erasure, and juxtaposition, Richards explores how bodies and emotions are mediated by technology and memory. His works often hover between intimacy and abstraction, the poetic and the political.
James Richards is based in Berlin. He was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2014. In 2017 he represented Wales at the 57th Venice Biennale and was awarded the Preis der Nationalgalerie 2024. He was part of Fondazione In Between Art Films' exhibition Penumbra in conjunction with the 59th Venice Biennale, and recent solo exhibitions include Workers in Song (with Billy Bultheel) at Wiels, Brussels (2023), Internal Litter at Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin (2022).
Steve Reinke (b. 1963, Canada) is an artist and writer known for his influential contributions to experimental video. Working primarily in the essayistic mode, Reinke blends fiction, autobiography, theory, and found footage to craft works that are at once intimate, provocative, and intellectually disarming. His videos often deploy deadpan narration and ironic tone to probe questions of sexuality, mortality, and the limits of representation. Reinke’s practice is grounded in queer theory and psychoanalysis, operating with a sharp awareness of the tensions between desire, control, and aesthetic form.
Reinke is based in Chicago and teaches at Northwestern University. His work has been shown at the Whitney Biennial, MoMA, and International Film Festival Rotterdam, and is held in collections such as the National Gallery of Canada and MoMA. Recent presentations include the exhibition Butter at Mumok (2020). He is represented by Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin.
