Cory Arcangel’s More Details (2012) stages a fleeting yet biting intervention into the world of luxury and consumption. In this performance, a handful of Tic Tacs are casually tossed beneath the seat of a high-end sports car—Mercedes, Ferrari, and so on. The act transforms a symbol of wealth into a site of trivial, almost childish excess, evoking themes of ‘candy capitalism’ and the incentive of consumer culture’s infantilization. Originally conceived for a MOCA LA exhibition curated by Mike D., More Details critiques the art world’s complicity in status games, revealing the absurdity of material indulgence and the allure of playful vice.
