ACCIDENTS

The 2026 edition will focus on the pig as a cultural, symbolic, and anthropological figure. Inspired by Carsten Höller and Rosemarie Trockel’s House for Pigs and People (Documenta X, 1997), the program considers the pig both as talisman conjuring everything we abhor about humanity—decadence, gluttony, obscenity, hypermateriality, the profane and the abject, the fascist or capitalist pig—and as an invitation to embrace “becoming-pig.” Drawing on Deleuze and Guattari’s notion of “becoming-animal” in A Thousand Plateaus, this edition proposes that becoming-pig is not imitation or metaphor, but the creation of new zones of intensity and alliance beyond the human. It will explore marginal figures who invent languages close to animality (Artaud), experiment with new behaviors (O Fantasma), or elevate abjection itself as a counterpoint to the so-called purity of humanity.
