OPENING WEEKEND

22.06-24.06.26
The Prologue Part I explore the core concept of secessionism by examining Stavanger’s history through the figure of Lars Hertervig, a Romantic painter, artiste maudit, and spiritualist who experimented with retreat and a personal secession from the world. It is deployed across different locations in the city through talks, screenings, and performances. Through multiple paths and narratives, the public program explores secessionism in its various polarities: isolation, anchoring, distraction, and sublimation. Its atmospheric backdrop draws on dark existentialism, the horror novel genre, museums of accidents, Quaker engineering and machines célibataires, the conflict and eroticism of oil, politics and speed, internet fortresses and grottos, infused and pervasive visions, euphoria and guilt, hermitage and silent light, secessionist and open communities, independence and autonomy, spiritual introspection and the quest for sublimation, disempowerment and frugal existence, as well as demiurgic climates and illuminations.
